There’s exciting news in the world of skin health. Recent reports from major news outlets such as National Public Radio (NPR) have highlighted new research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Dermatol showing nicotinamide, a form of vitamin B3 (also known as niacinamide), may help reduce the risk of skin cancer.
According to reports, dermatologists treating skin cancer have recommended nicotinamide for years because of its ability to help protect skin cells from UV damage. Until now, however, research has been limited to small-scale studies. The current study looked at just under 34,000 Veterans Affairs patients. Participants who took 500 mg twice daily for 30 days showed a noticeable decrease in skin cancer risk, especially for those who had a prior history of skin cancer. These encouraging results were featured in NPR’s detailed coverage of the study.
More Ways Nicotinamide Supports Your Health
Protects Your Eyes - Early studies suggest nicotinamide may help support healthy retinal function and benefits those with glaucoma.
Clearer Skin, Naturally - Known for its anti-inflammatory benefits, nicotinamide may help reduce acne and support overall skin clarity. Both topical and oral forms have shown promise.
