Omega3 fatty acids need to be part of your immunity-- building arsenal.
Here’s why:
Omega-3’s and Your Immunity
Omega-3 fatty acids might be the original food supplement. My mother told stories about having to eat a spoonful of cod liver oil every day growing up, and how much she hated it. It’s been known and accepted for generations that fish oil somehow keeps you healthy. And now modern science says it’s good for your cholesterol and overall heart health. All true. And yet Omega-3's offer much more. They are an integral part of a healthy functioning immune system at its peak. And that’s why we all need it.
You most likely associate Omega-3's with very specific health benefits, and that is primarily due to the hyper-focus on a particular aspect of heart health-related to inflammation. The unsaturated fatty acids we refer to as Omega-3's are one of the greatest reducers of inflammation that causes blood vessel damage, which can lead to stroke and heart disease.
These two conditions can be dire, so it's easy to see why Omega-3’s invaluable contribution to this medical area has been well studied and documented for years. Compromised heart health can put us at a higher risk of complications from infectious diseases.
Additional studies on Omega-3 fatty acids and how they can increase immune health have been around for decades but are now garnering more attention and fast becoming some of the most intriguing topics amongst Omega-3 experts today.
The immune system is exactly as it sounds, a group of parts that function as a whole to work in unison, ultimately benefiting from all parts working at peak performance. The system can malfunction when one component falls behind. Organisms called macrophages are the highway patrolmen of the immune system and cruise around different organs with the ability to recognize pathogens that don’t belong and immediately get to work removing them.
When macrophages interact with Omega-3 fatty acids, they turn into super cops. The cellular alterations that occur as a result cause many extraordinary things. One of the most interesting studies was published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences which found that Omega-3's increase immune defense¹.
There is no disputing the connection between Omega 3’s, inflammation reduction, and a higher functioning immune system, but seeing the direct impact of Omega-3's on macrophages helps pave the way for these fatty acids to extend beyond the heart-centric conversation to become a significant part of the growing dialogue on immune health.
Additional studies have shown that those with compromised immune systems can benefit from Omega-3 fatty acids and their B cell (a white cell variety) enhancing properties². This particular research is promising in today’s global health climate where immunocompromised individuals face more uncertainties than ever before. Building a strong immune system can be done in many ways, and Omega-3 fatty acids are an important part of the growing conversation. One thing is certain: improving your immune health is relevant to all of us.
It also matters where your Omega-3's come from. Like anything you put in your body, you should know its origins. The source of our Omega-3's in QuantaOmega3 is wild Patagonian salmon, fished from cold, unpolluted waters and tested for heavy metals. Our gel caps are easy to take and without a “fishy” taste. Let’s just say it’s not your mother's cod liver oil.
We encourage you to take care of your immunity, and taking EFA’s daily, in the form of QuantaOmega3 will help.
